COACHING UPDATE FOR JANUARY, FEBRUARY & MARCH 2018

JANUARY 2018

We will be having 2 coached sessions straight after the CX National Championships on the 20th & 27th January. These will be cyclocross based as in the sessions before the Christmas holiday period.

ROLLER SESSIONS

The roller sessions are  to start Wednesday 10th January and venue TBC and times (we have been double booked since previous post) . Please see the original Hetton Hawks Facebook page for details of the requirements.

FEBRUARY 2018

Running on after January and for the full duration of February, we will be running a social ride on each Saturday instead of the usual coached session. The dates and meeting point location are listed below;

  1. FEBRUARY 3RD–                  HETTON FOR CX/MTB & ROAD
  2. FEBRUARY 10TH–                HOWNSGILL TEAROOMS FOR CX/MTB & ROAD
  3. FEBRUARY 17TH–                HAMSTERLEY FOREST FOR MTB & ROAD
  4. FEBRUARY 24TH–                BISHOP AUCKLAND/DEERNESS VALLEY FOR CX/MTB & ROAD

However, we are looking for 4 or 5 riders who would be willing to take part in a special coached session at Hetton on 3rd February to assist Daniel Hadnum in finishing his level 2 coaching award. This will consist of 2 shorter 45min sessions running straight after each other and will be taken by Dan plus another coach overseeing him, anyone willing to volunteer please say so in the comments section or contact one of the coaches or committee at one of the January sessions.

The social rides will be suitable for all riders with varying route lengths and an off-road and road route option available.

ROAD – Any riders that are looking to go to the Berwick weekend but are not greatly experienced at riding on the open road, this is a great opportunity to gain some experience doing so as the routes will take in some great quiet back roads and be relatively safe.  We will be looking for volunteers for support cars for the road social rides, please note this is not a coached ride and merely a social ride.

MARCH 2018

MARCH 3RD should see the return of normal Saturday coached sessions to Hetton only the disciplines will have reverted back to MTB & road weather permitting for road bikes. We usually have the option for a road bike based session taking place on the track along with at least 1 mountain bike group that normally utilises the wooded areas on the hillside.

ADULT COACHING SESSIONS

It was brought to our attention that there was an appetite for by some of the parents to take part in some of the coaching sessions to make them more competent when riding with their children. We have thought about this and have decided we will try to add some adult session to the regular coaching given on Saturdays.

However, there are a couple of caveats to this, firstly this will only take place if there are enough coaches available so as not to hinder the youth coaching sessions, and secondly the sessions will mirror the same sessions we are carrying out for the other groups (so no complaining when we send you down the big hill near the lake!!).

As I said we should know in advance on availability so I would suggest you bring your bikes regardless, as the worst that could happen, would be to just have a ride around as a group, still not too bad a morning.

BERWICK TRAINING CAMP

As in other years we will be joining Johnston Jets CC for a full weekend of socialising and riding at Berwick. There is a post  on the Hetton Hawks Facebook and Website page with full details of the weekend along with participation criteria and requirements.  Please see Matthew Lynn for information as he is the organiser of this.

SPLIT SESSIONS MTB/TRACK

Furthermore, we will be looking to carry out some sessions at Hamsterly Forest for the mountain bike riders, again keep an eye on the FB page for details.

We will again be looking to do some sessions split between Hetton and the MSV track, please keep an eye on the FB page for announcements and dates, with the intention of getting as many of our riders accredited on the track who wish too.

If anyone would like to discuss any areas of coaching please feel free to speak to myself or any member of the coaching team.

Thanks Paul
