It’s that time of year again, when breathing is hard and balance is sometimes precarious! Yes, the Hetton Roller sessions have a slightly new look but once again we are going pretty much every Wednesday between 18th January and 29th March. We may have some Winter weather issues to contend with.

We hope the centre will prove slightly better for us. We are in a sports hall and it will be a lot cooler. Second, for the parents, there is a cafe on site where you can obtain refreshments! Third, as we are on the ground floor, there are no stairs to negotiate with equipment.
Parking is adjacent to the centre. Great Lumley is just two minutes from the roundabout on the A167 where Chester-Le-Street Cricket Club is situated.
We are also developing new ways to while away the time in the session with revised drills complementing existing British Cycling academy ones. The emphasis will continue to be part technical to develop roller training skills and part conditioning to help give our riders a good start to the road, track and mountain bike seasons.
A note to new starters: riders aged 10 would appear to be the best time to start, simply because younger riders struggle to ride for over an hour, even with breaks. We have a starter section with coaches on hand to help novices learn to ride the rollers and before long, even inexperienced riders are able to join in the main session.
We will have a small number of new rollers for purchase at an advantageous price, either up front or by paying a portion each week.

Finally, please note that a gymnastics class takes place in the hall until 7pm and we must wait until they have sorted their equipment out. I’m sure everyone understands that!
